Series With Musketeers Spans 50 Years
             Â
Marquette and Xavier will meet for the 74th time on Sunday morning, continuing a series that spans nearly half of the program's 101-year history.
             Â
The Golden Eagles own a 49-24 overall lead in matchups that date back to the 1958-59 campaign, but XU has claimed 9-of-12 since the Musketeers joined the BIG EAST Conference in 2013-14. MU dominated the pairings during the Al McGuire and Hank Raymonds era, at one point claiming 26-straight victories between 1969 and 1983.Â
Â
The lone NCAA tournament meeting came in 2010-11 and resulted in a 66-55 Marquette win in the opening round and started the team's run to a Sweet 16 appearance. XU posted a 67-63 win over MU at home in the 2000 National Invitation Tournament.
Â
Xavier, ranked in the top-10 at the time of both meetings, swept the home-and-home series in 2017-18. The Musketeers held off Marquette for a narrow 91-87 decision in the league opener on Dec. 27, 2017 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center before claiming an 89-70 decision at the Cintas Center on Jan. 24, 2018.
Â
Fiserv Forum Proving To Be Sweet Home
Â
Marquette has made the most of its home-court advantage at the sparkling new Fiserv Forum and as a result is a perfect 10-0 on Al McGuire Court in 2018-19.
Â
The Golden Eagles have won their first 10 home games for the first time since 2012-13, when the squad concluded the season undefeated (16-0) at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
Â
The primary reason for the team's success at Fiserv Forum, has been it's effort at the defensive end. The first 10 opponents have combined to shoot just 35.7 percent from the field overall and 27.0 percent from behind the 3-point line. The Golden Eagles have also dominated the boards, owning a +13.4 advantage in total rebounds per game.
Â
Trio Taking Advantage Of Charity Attempts
Â
Through games of Jan. 3, the Golden Eagles are ranked second in the BIG EAST and 37th in the nation in free throw percentage (.749).
Â
Marquette's overall success at the line as a team is primarily the result of the efforts of Markus Howard (.912, 1st), Joey Hauser (.850, 4th) and Sam Hauser (.848, 5th) who all rank in the top-five among BIG EAST players in free throw percentage.
Â
The trio has combined to shoot 145-of-164 (88.4 percent) from the line in 2018-19, accounting for 56.4 percent of the team's overall attempts.
