Joe Amplo again on Team USA staff for 2022

Amplo helped the Americans to a gold medal at the 2018 FIL World Championships in Israel
SPARKS, Md. — Marquette head coach Joe Amplo has been named by US Lacrosse to the staff for the 2022 U.S. Men's National Team. The staff, led by head coach John Danowski will guide the U.S. team over the next four years, leading up to the 2022 Federation of International Lacrosse Men's World Championship in Coquitlam, British Columbia.
"I'm honored to be chosen to represent Team USA again," Amplo said. "History has shown that we have a challenging task ahead of us, but certainly an enjoyable one. I could not be more excited to work alongside two of my greatest friends, John Danowski and Seth Tierney again. It will also be fun to learn from another championship coach in Charley Toomey."
Named as assistant coaches were Amplo, Seth Tierney and Charley Toomey. Nate Snyder will serve as the assistant manager and Jay Bissette will be the team's equipment manager.
Amplo and Tierney were both assistant coaches on Danowski's staff this past summer, helping the U.S. to a dramatic 9-8 victory over Canada in the FIL championship game in Netanya, Israel.
"I'm excited to once again work with Seth and Joe and welcome Charley to the group," Danowski said. "Charley is a perfect fit, not only from his experience as a player, assistant coach and head coach, but his character is beyond reproach. I'm absolutely ecstatic to work with these guys."
Amplo is the only head coach in Marquette University history, and led the Golden Eagles to Big East championships and NCAA tournament berths in 2016 and 2017. He was the defensive coordinator for the U.S. team in 2018. A graduate of Hofstra, he spent a decade at the school as an assistant coach, helping Hofstra reach the NCAA tournament eight times.
Tierney has been the head coach at Hofstra University since 2007, and he topped the 100 career victories mark this past season. He has led the Pride to four NCAA tournament appearances and his 2017 team ranked as high as No. 2 in the country during the regular season. The offensive coordinator for the 2018 U.S. team, Tierney, a graduate of Johns Hopkins, served as an assistant coach at Hofstra and Johns Hopkins before taking over the Hofstra program. As an assistant, he helped lead Hopkins to the 2005 NCAA championship.
Toomey, the head coach at Loyola, is making his debut as a member of a U.S. national team staff, but has previously assisted as an evaluator during the team tryout process. In his first 13 years as the head coach at Loyola, Toomey has led the Greyhounds to a 134-64 mark and the 2012 NCAA championship. A two-time All-American goalie at Loyola, Toomey has been a part of 17 NCAA tournament teams at the school, three as a player, five as an assistant coach and nine as head coach. He will be inducted into the US Lacrosse Chesapeake Chapter Hall of Fame later this month.
Snyder has deep ties to both US Lacrosse and the sport. He has served in a variety of roles in professional lacrosse, most recently as executive vice president of business operations for the Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League. He previously served as assistant general manager for the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse and the Orlando Titans (NLL). A graduate of St. John Fisher College, Snyder is a former special events manager for US Lacrosse and in a volunteer role has served as president of the Greater Rochester Chapter of US Lacrosse.
Bissette will be serving as equipment manager for his fourth U.S. national team. He was the equipment manager for the 2018 U.S. men's team and the 2012 and 2016 U.S. U19 teams, all of which won gold medals. He is the head equipment manager for Duke's men's lacrosse team, as well as the Blue Devils' men's and women's soccer programs. He has been a part of Duke's 2010, 2013 and 2014 national championship teams.
The U.S. men's national team trains and plays using best-in class products provided by Nike (apparel and footwear), Cascade (helmets), STX (equipment), Warrior (equipment), SISU Guard (mouthguards), The Pearl by Guardian (balls) and DJO (sports braces).
In addition to these partners, MedStar Sports Medicine, Chipotle, Greenfields and Nationwide are official sponsors of the national team. Team training is also aided by products from Motive Pure, NormaTec Recovery and Athletic Republic.
