Pederson and McGauley Sweep BIG EAST Weekly Honors for MU

NEW YORK – Marquette's Daniel Pederson and Caitlin McGauley have been named BIG EAST Male and Female Athletes of the Week in Cross Country based on their performances at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational, the league office announced. Â

BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week
Daniel Pederson, Marquette, Sr. (Spooner, Wis.) – Pederson finished first individually in the men's maroon collegiate race at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Saturday. He won the 8k race with a time of 24:56.39, the second best 8k time of his career. His performance helped MU finish third overall as a team in the 15-team meet. The win for Pederson was his second first-place finish ever at MU and first since Sept. 9, 2017 when he won the Vic Godfrey Open.
BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week
Caitlin McGauley, Marquette, Sr. (Mahtomedi, Minn.)  – McGauley finished 25th at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational with a time of 18:26.25 for the 5K race and helped Marquette take fifth place in the team standings. The top five MU runners all finished within 10 seconds of each other. It was the third straight race that she finished first among Golden Eagle runners. This is the senior's first BIG EAST honor in her career.Â
Both teams will be back in action next weekend at the Louisville Classic in Louisville, Kentucky. The race is scheduled for next Saturday morning, Oct. 5.
