Eichhorn claimed his second win of the season at Erin Hills
NEW YORK – Marquette University men's golfer Hunter Eichhorn was honored as the BIG EAST Conference Male Golfer of the Week, the league announced on Friday afternoon.
The junior earned his second event victory in the last three tournaments on Tuesday at the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills with a 7-under par 209 (70-67-72).
"(Eichorn) is obviously a special player," Marquette head coach Steve Bailey said. "To have two wins in his last three events at challenging golf courses and he seems to show up when the stakes and the challenges get a little tougher. It's his makeup and the type of gritty player he is. It doesn't always have to look pretty but he finds a way and that's what I love about him."
The junior led by a stroke entering the final day at the site of the 2017 U.S. Open Championship and held on for co-medalist honors with USF's Luke Gifford. He recorded 14 birdies for his fourth career victory.
His other tournament win this year came at the Windon Memorial Classic at Conway Farms in Lake Forest, Illinois, three-time course of the PGA's BMW Championship.
Eichhorn has earned BIG EAST weekly recognition on four other occasions, most recently on Sept. 12 after tying for eighth place at the Gopher Invitational to begin the year.
