OVERLAND PARK, Kansas—Marquette University volleyball senior Allie Barber has been selected as one of 10 finalists for the 2019 volleyball Senior CLASS Award, a prestigious award that recognizes NCAA Division I seniors with notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Barber certainly excels in those four areas. The Cedarburg, Wis. native currently leads Marquette and is ranked ninth in the NCAA with 4.70 kills per set. She was tabbed as BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year and has been chosen as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week three times this season and is just 52 kills away from becoming Marquette's all-time kills leader.
In the classroom Barber is an exceptional student with a 3.98 grade point average and majoring in biomedical sciences. She was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America first team in 2018.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The finalists were chosen by a selection committee from the list of 30 candidates announced earlier in the season. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately, and fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through December 2. Fan votes will then be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner. The Senior CLASS Award recipient will be announced during the 2019 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship in December.
