
MU XC Travels to Madison for NCAA Great Lakes Regional

Seven men and seven women's runners will compete for MU
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams are set to run in the 2019 NCAA Great Lakes Regional, which takes place on Friday, Nov. 15 at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison, Wisconsin. Â

The regional championships will be hosted by the University of Wisconsin, which also hosted the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championships. Â

SCHEDULE AND STREAMING:Â
The women's 6k race is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. CT, with the men's 10k race following at 12:30 p.m. CT. An awards ceremony will take place at the conclusion of both races at approximately 1:30 p.m.

The events will be streamed live for free by FloTrack while live results will be accessible on PTTiming.com.

GOLDEN EAGLES NOTES:Â
The MU men have finished in the top 20 in each of the past five years, with their highest finish coming in 2016 with a 13th place finish. The MU women's highest place in the last five years also came in 2016, with their 10th place finish. Â

In 2005 and 2006, the MU women earned consecutive sixth-place finishes, signifying their best finishes in program history at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. The men's team took its best-ever finish in 2011, when they placed eighth.

Individually, Kyle Saginus registered a program-best 15th place finish in 2008 for the men's team. On the women's side, Cassie Peller notched a 14th place finish in 2006.

30 NCAA Division I teams will be competing on the men's side, with 32 on the women's side. Â

2018 GREAT LAKES REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS:Â
The Marquette University cross country teams concluded the 2018 season with strong performances as the men placed 15th and women took 23rd at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional hosted by Indiana State.Â
Â
University of Michigan took the title on the women's side, with three of their women in earning top-ten finishes. The Wolverines finished with 46 points as a team. The University of Wisconsin Badgers followed as runner-up with 86 points and the Marquette women finished in 23rd place with 636 points.Â

The University of Wisconsin men earned the top finish of the 2018 meet, with 46 points and three men with top-ten finishes. Notre Dame was the runner-up with 91 points. MU placed 15th with 455 points.

There is no spectator parking at the Zimmer Championship Course or University Ridge. Parking is not allowed on Woods Road, County Highway PD or County Highway M near the Zimmer Course. Any vehicles violating this will be subject to ticket and tow at the owner's expense. Spectator parking will be located at Blackhawk Church in Middleton, Wisconsin.

Blackhawk Church:Â Blackhawk Church is located 5 miles north of the Zimmer Course off West Mineral Point Road. If traveling on the Beltline, exit to West Mineral Point Road and continue to Veritas Drive or Brader Way (both located on the right). Parking is available behind the church on the upper deck.Â

The top-two teams in each of the NCAA's nine regions advance to the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana on Nov. 23, along with 13 additional at-large teams selected by the NCAA. Each of the top-25 individual finishers at Friday's meet will receive all-region recognition with the top-four individuals not on a qualifying team advancing to the NCAA Championships.Â

- Both squads are looking to improve from last year's placements, with the men taking 15th and the women taking 23rd.
- The Great Lakes Regional was widely regarded as the most competitive of all nine regional meets, the Golden Eagles represented Marquette well, with both teams combining for four individuals in the top-100, amid a field of 200 entries on each side. Â
- Returning seniors Daniel Pederson and Ryan Burd will look to top their highest-ever finishes at a regional from last year (Peterson placed 61st and Burd took 86th).
- Seniors Brad Eagan and Daniel Pederson have registered three top-100 finishes at the Great Lakes Regional.
- The MU men enter the race as the No. 10-ranked team in the Great Lakes Region by USTFCCCA.
- Marquette is coming off a successful performance at the BIG EAST Conference Championships. The men tied their best-ever finish at fourth place, and the women finished sixth for the second-straight year.
- Three MU men in Ryan Burd, Daniel Pederson, and Brad Eagan earned ALL-BIG EAST honors while Caitlin McGauley took All-BIG EAST honors for the women.Â
- All of the top seven MU men finished in the top 30 overall.
- Sophomore Lauren Neiheisel (23:05.8) and junior Emily Foley (23:14.2) placed 26th and 29th, respectively, placing three MU women in the top 30 overall.
- All-conference honors are earned for finishing in the top-20 overall. The MU men had three All-BIG EAST performers in one season for the first time in program history while McGauley was the first Golden Eagle women's runner to be honored since 2016.
