Eichhorn tees off on the seventh hole at 9 a.m. CT on Monday
EL PASO, Texas – Marquette University junior men's golfer Hunter Eichhorn will compete in the 2019 Sun Bowl Marathon All-America Golf Classic on Nov. 24-26 at El Paso Country Club.
Eichhorn begins first round action on Monday, Nov. 25 at 9 a.m. Central time on the seventh tee with LSU's Philip Barbaree and Garett Reband of Oklahoma. The annual event starts with the Titleist Long Drive Contest and PING Putting Contest on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. Central time. Rounds one and two are scheduled for Monday, while the third and final round is set for 9 a.m. CT on Tuesday, Nov. 26.Â
Eichhorn is one of 34 college golfers who will compete for the Lee Trevino Trophy at the par-71, 6,889 yard El Paso Country Club course. This is the largest field the Sun Bowl Marathon All-America Golf Classic has had eclipsing the previous high of 32 participants, which happened in 2009. Former Marquette All-American Mike Van Sickle won the event in 2008 as the only other Golden Eagle to have competed in the tournament.
"It's a limited field and it's an honor just to be included in the event," Eichhorn said. "Being mentioned with such good company, I'll take that. I'm looking forward to it and it will be fun."
Some of golf's brightest stars have traveled to El Paso to compete since its inaugural year in 1974. Jordan Spieth, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Davis Love III, Justin Thomas, Notah Begay and Jerry Pate are just a handful of past participants who went on to have successful PGA careers. College All-America Golf Classic Alumni have combined to win 53 major championships and have earned over $2 billion in career earnings.Â
Eichhorn, who was named to the final fall watch list for the Fred Haskins Award, honoring the year's outstanding college golfer, has led the Golden Eagles at five of six tournaments this fall and recorded four top-10 finishes. The Carney, Michigan native earned medalist honors at the Windon Memorial Classic on Sept. 16-17 at Conway Farms and the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills on Oct. 6-8 and is a three-time BIG EAST Conference Male Golfer of the Week this fall.
The junior has finished all six tournaments at par-or-better and tied a collegiate low with a 6-under 207 at the Windon Memorial Classic. He has posted a 70.39 scoring average this fall to lead MU and is an average of 1.11 strokes under par with 13 of 18 rounds this season coming under par.
Eichhorn is Marquette's career scoring leader at 71.43 strokes and owns four career collegiate victories. In addition to winning the individual crown at the 2018 BIG EAST Championship, he also won the 118th Wisconsin State Amateur Championship in July.
"Players are invited to this tournament because of their many college achievements and outstanding amateur career and ranking," said Tournament Director Bob Kimble. "I can assure the fans that many future PGA Tour players will be out on the course during this tournament."
