MU is one of three programs in the nation to earn this honor
MILWAUKEE—The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced its 2018-2019 award winners during the 2019 Annual Meeting at the Palm Beach County Convention Center.
Â
The Marquette University women's lacrosse team was one of three programs in the nation to earn the IWLCA's annual Team Community Awareness Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions by one team from each division on their campus and in their local community.
Â
"It's an honor to be recognized by the IWLCA as the recipients for the Team Community Awareness Award," MU head coach Meredith Black said. "Our program takes great pride in using our platform to positively affect our surrounding community and we look forward to continue doing so in the future."
Â
The Golden Eagles joined Lee University (Division II) and Alma College (Division III) as recipients of the community service award. This award is the first of its kind to be awarded to the Golden Eagles.
Â
"I am so proud of our players for how hard they work to engage with the community and make a positive impact not only within the campus, but the community as well," Black said. "Our student-athletes have continuously made community service a priority despite the time constraints they face on a day-to-day basis."
Â
Coach Black and the MU women's lacrosse team begins their 2020 season on Sunday, Feb. 9 at Notre Dame.
