EL PASO, Texas – Marquette University junior men's golfer Hunter Eichhorn is tied for 11th at the El Paso Country Club in the 2019 Sun Bowl Marathon All-America Golf Classic after firing a 3-under 139 (70-69) through 36 holes on Monday.
Eichhorn, playing off the seventh tee with LSU's Philip Barbaree and Garett Reband of Oklahoma, got off to a fast start on Monday morning. The junior sat in a tie for first through nine holes at 4-under par after posting birdies on five of his first eight holes. He finished the first round with a 1-under 70 after recovering for birdie on No. 17 before finishing with seven-straight pars.
Eichhorn shot a 2-under 69 in the second round with four birdies offsetting a pair of bogeys. He posted a total of 10 birdies on the day, a number tied for sixth-most in the tournament field.
Ludvig Aberg, who leads the event with a 14-under 128 (62-66), fired a tournament-record-tying 62 in the opening round with 10 birdies. The Texas Tech golfer from Sweden leads the field with 15 birdies through 36 holes. Eichhorn enters Tuesday's final round two strokes back of seventh place and four strokes from third.
Eichhorn will begin third round action on Tuesday at 9:20 a.m. Central time on hole No. 1 with Patrick Welch of Oklahoma and Lousville's John Murphy.
Eichhorn, a three-time BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week in the fall of 2019, is on the final fall watch list for the Fred Haskins Award, honoring the year's outstanding college golfer. He has finished all six tournaments at par-or-better with four top-10 finishes and tied a collegiate low with a 6-under 207 at the Windon Memorial Classic on Sept. 16-17.
