EL PASO, Texas – Marquette University junior men's golfer Hunter Eichhorn tied for 26th at the El Paso Country Club in the 2019 Sun Bowl Marathon All-America Golf Classic with a 1-over 214 (70-69-75) after shooting 4-over par in Tuesday's final round.
Eichhorn began the day three-under par but posted three bogeys and a double in his first seven holes prior to a birdie on the par-4 eighth hole. He came in at even par on the back nine with a pair of birdies offsetting two bogeys to end his day with a 75.
In Monday's opening round, the junior sat in a tie for first through nine holes at 4-under par after posting birdies on five of his first eight holes. The day's 10th hole, No. 16, provided a challenge for Eichhorn who dropped four strokes with a quadruple bogey to push him back to even par. He finished the first round with a 1-under 70 after recovering for birdie on No. 17 before finishing with seven-straight pars.
Eichhorn shot a 2-under 69 in the second round and posted a total of 10 birdies on Monday, a number tied for sixth-most in the tournament field.
Texas Tech's Ludvig Aberg won the event by four strokes with a 13-under 200 (62-66-72). The Swedish golfer fired a tournament-record-tying 62 in the opening round with 10 birdies.
Eichhorn, a three-time BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week in the fall of 2019, is on the final fall watch list for the Fred Haskins Award, honoring the year's outstanding college golfer.
