Break In 2018-19 Schedule Allows Time To Reflect

Marquette enjoying record-setting season
With Marquette completing the first half of the BIG EAST schedule and enjoying a well-deserved bye weekend in league play, here is a look at some highlights from the season so far.

- No. 10/9 Marquette is poised to reach its highest national ranking in 40 years. The team has only been as high as 8th (2011-12) since 1978.
- Marquette is the only University in the nation with both its men's and women's programs in the top-10. The teams have combined for an overall record of 37-6 and 17-1 in the BIG EAST Conference. The last loss by either team came on Jan. 1.
- Marquette's 19-3 start overall is the best since 2008-09 and it's 8-1 league mark is best since that same team opened BIG EAST play 9-0.
- The eight-game winning streak is the longest since Marquette rattled off nine victories in a row in non-league play in 2015-16.
- BIG EAST Player of the Year and All-America Candidate Markus Howard leads the league in scoring (25.0 ppg.), free throw percentage (.911) and 3-point field goals made (78)
- BIG EAST Freshman of the Year candidate Joey Hauser is ranked among the league leaders in scoring (30th), rebounding (14th), field goal percentage (15th), free throw percentage (5th) and 3-point field goal percentage (1st). He has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on four occasions
- All-BIG EAST candidate Sam Hauser is ranked among the league leaders in six categories, including 11th in scoring (15.5 ppg.) and eighth in rebounding (6.9 rpg.)
- Theo John leads the league in blocked shots (2.3 bpg.)
- Markus Howard is averaging 26.9 points per game during the eight-game run, while Sam Hauser has chipped in 17.8 points per contest and leads the team in rebounding (6.9 rpg.)
- The winning streak includes four BIG EAST road games, including the program's first victory at Butler since 1990
- Marquette's defense has held opposing offenses to just 41.3 percent shooting from the floor overall and 34.5 percent from behind the 3-point line.
- As a team, MU has knocked down 82.0 percent of its free throws and has made nearly as many charity tosses as its opponents have attempted.
