The Golden Eagles host Northwestern and Face Wisconsin
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's volleyball team is happy to announce two games on its spring schedule against a pair of midwestern teams, highlighted by a match against in-state rival Wisconsin.
The Golden Eagles open play against Northwestern on Saturday, Mar. 2 at the Al McGuire Center. Drills begin at 10:30 with warmups for the scrimmage beginning at 1 p.m. The Wildcats finished last season with a 16-16 record in a difficult Big Ten conference, facing numerous teams in the top-25.
A month later, MU hosts cross-state rival Wisconsin. The Badgers closed out a successful 25-7 season with a 3-1 loss to then No. 3 Illinois in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Wisconsin was led by sophomore middle blocker Dana Rettke with 21 kills, and junior libero Tiffany Clark who added 19 digs in the effort.
The Marquette-Wisconsin matchup will take place on Apr. 12 at the Milwaukee Sting Center at a time still to be determined.
The Golden Eagles lose just three players from the fall and have returning junior Allie Barber, who was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America First Team, as well as earning AVCA Second Team All-America Honors. Barber is the first to be named in the top three team since Elizabeth Koberstein in 2013.
MU had its most successful season in program history with a record 28 victories, its eighth-straight NCAA Tournament and a national No. 14 seed in the NCAA Tournament helping the Golden Eagles to their first round of 16, falling to eventual Final Four squad, Illinois.
