The honor marks Shea Garcia's first as Freshman of the Week and second overall

NEW YORK – Marquette University women's lacrosse attack Shea Garcia earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Garcia recorded her fifth hat trick of the season in Saturday's conference opener and put each of her five shots on target. The Manhasset, New York native helped to spur a 7-0 run for Marquette, helping the Golden Eagles tie the score twice over the final 12 minutes of action. She also scooped up a ground ball, added in a draw control and caused one turnover.

It's the rookies' second overall weekly league honor after earning mention on Feb. 19 and first as BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.

The Golden Eagles continue conference action on Saturday against Butler at Valley Fields at 4 p.m. Central time.
