NEW YORK – Redshirt senior Tanner Thomson of the Marquette University men's lacrosse team earned his second BIG EAST Conference Midfielder of the Week honor and sophomore goalie John Hulsman was named to the league's weekly honor roll on Monday for their play in Saturday's 12-8 win over St. John's.
Thomson scored the game's first two goals and posted a game-high six points on four goals and two assists. The Toronto native capped an 8-0 Marquette run spanning the second and third quarters with his third tally of the afternoon with 14:08 remaining in the third. His fourth and final score was MU's last goal with just under five minutes remaining in regulation.
The honor is Thomson's second of the season after also earning recognition on March 18 for his play in wins over Robert Morris (March 12) and Michigan (March 16). The midfielder now has a team-high 23 goals and 32 points in 2019.
Hulsman earned weekly honor roll recognition for posting a season-best 15 saves in the victory over the Red Storm. The Baltimore native came up clutch in the second and third quarters by only allowing one goal on 18 shots as MU pulled away for the win.
Hulsman previously earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors on March 25 for his play in the win at then-No. 14 Georgetown on March 23.
The Golden Eagles resume action on Wednesday, April 10 at No. 12/10 Notre Dame in a 3 p.m. Central time contest at Arlotta Stadium.
