Marquette’s Eichhorn claims WSGA State Amateur crown

The rising junior shot a course-record 65 on Tuesday on his way to his first state amateur title
GREEN LAKE, Wisconsin – Marquette University rising junior Hunter Eichhorn claimed medalist honors at the 118th Wisconsin State Amateur Championship on Thursday afternoon at The Golf Courses of Lawsonia.
The Carney, Michigan native carded a 7-under-par 281 (73-65-69-74), including a new course-record 65 on Tuesday. Eichhorn posted eight birdies on Tuesday, including four in the first five holes, and closed out the tournament with four on Thursday.
Marquette's Tyler Leach (74-70-70-73) and Matthew Bachmann (70-70-72-75) each tied for 10th with a 1-under-par 287.
Eichhorn led last year's field at Minocqua Country Club after 54 holes at 10-under-par, but posted a 78 (+6) on the final day to tie for fourth at a 4-under-par (305).
Nick Nelson was the last Golden Eagle to win a Wisconsin State Amateur in 2016 at North Shore Golf Course in Menasha.
