The Golden Eagles host the Canadian university at Valley Fields on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's soccer team opens exhibition action on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. against the University of Regina at Valley Fields.
The event is open to all and admission is free.
The Golden Eagles return seven starters from last year's squad, including Preseason All-BIG EAST Team midfielder Katrina Wetherell, who posted six points and a team-high four assists in 2018. Senior goalkeeper Maddy Henry returns in net after posting 100 saves and five shutouts last season. Henry has started all 61 matches in her MU career and is just two saves from Marquette's career record of 288, held by Mo Bothwell (1997-00).
The Cougars will head to Madison following the match at Valley Fields for a Saturday showdown with Wisconsin. Regina, which plays as a member of the Canada West Universities Athletic Association, must replace four graduated seniors, but has six players heading into their fifth years of eligibility this fall.
It marks the second preseason in a row that Marquette will play two exhibition contests as the Golden Eagles will also head to Notre Dame on Sunday for a 3 p.m. matinee at Alumni Stadium. MU faced Green Bay and Mississippi State prior to the start of regular season action in 2018.
