
Men's Cross Country Earns BIG EAST Academic Excellence Award

NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference has announced the 22 teams that have earned 2018-19 Team Academic Excellence Awards.
For the third straight year, the Marquette University men's cross country team was recognized for the for having the highest collective grade-point average for their sport.
The men's cross country team compiled a 3.55 GPA during the 2018-19 academic year, besting last year's 3.45 GPA. They earned a 3.49 GPA in 2016-17.
10 different schools had at least one team honored, with Butler and St. John's leading the way with four certificates each. Creighton and Seton Hall had three teams recognized, while DePaul and Villanova had two apiece. Georgetown, Marquette, and affiliate schools Denver and Temple rounded out the award winners with one nod apiece.
The winners were chosen based on the 2018-19 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
