Forward Dawson Garcia (Prior Lake, MN/Prior Lake HS) has been named the Preseason BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, the league office announced on Wednesday morning at its annual media day.

Sophomore guard D.J. Carton (Bettendorf, IA/Bettendorf HS), who transferred from Ohio State at the conclusion of the 2019-20 campaign and has yet to play in the BIG EAST, was named Preseason All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention in a vote by the league's head coaches.

Garcia was tabbed a McDonald's All-American as a senior at Prior Lake High School and was a consensus top-50 recruit in 2019-20. He scored over 2,000 career points and averaged 31.9 points and 9.7 rebounds per contest last season.

Carton was a consensus top-35 recruit as a senior in high school and was tabbed Iowa's Mr. Basketball in 2018-19. He appeared in 20 games for the Buckeyes last season and averaged 10.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.
