Lott selected to All-BIG EAST Second Team; Taylor named All-Freshman
NEW YORK--Marquette University women's basketball head coach Megan Duffy has been named BIG EAST Coach of the Year, the league office announced on Wednesday. Major awards and all-conference teams were selected by a vote of the BIG EAST head coaches who were not allowed to vote for their own players.
Â
In addition to Duffy, the Golden Eagles' junior guard Selena Lott was selected to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, while freshman Camryn Taylor earned BIG EAST All-Freshman Team accolades.
Â
In her first year at the helm Duffy has kept Marquette at the top of the BIG EAST standings. Originally picked ninth in the league's preseason coaches' poll, Duffy guided Marquette to a 13-5 BIG EAST record and a second-place finish, which included a victory over No. 16/15 DePaul. At a 22-7 overall record, the Golden Eagles have tallied a fourth-consecutive 20-win campaign, which is just the second time in program history the squad has had four straight 20-win seasons. Duffy has the second-highest winning percentage in the country among third-year head coaches with a .710 mark.
Â
Lott earns her first career postseason award after thriving in a veteran role and leading the Golden Eagles with 15.0 points per game in BIG EAST play and overall. The Troy, New York native was second in the league dishing out 5.9 assists in conference games and shot 51.9 percent from the floor. She doubled her scoring average from last season and averaged 34.2 minutes per game.
Â
Taylor made a strong impact in her first season wearing Blue and Gold averaging 9.6 points during BIG EAST play, which was the fourth-best mark among freshmen. The Peoria, Illinois product led MU in rebounding three times this season and led in scoring twice. She recorded double figures in scoring 10 times this season, including her first career double-double in a win over Seton Hall.
Â
The Golden Eagles open the 2020 BIG EAST Tournament, presented by Jeep, as the No. 2 seed and will face the winner of the No. 7/No. 10 game on Saturday, March 7 at 6 p.m. CT at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.
