WBB Set for 2020 BIG EAST Tournament as No. 2 Seed

The Golden Eagles open play on Saturday, March 7 at 6 p.m. CT on FS2
CHICAGO – The postseason begins as the Marquette women's basketball team is set for the 2020 BIG EAST Tournament, presented by Jeep, from March 6-9 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The Golden Eagles have claimed the No. 2 seed and earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of No. 10 Xavier and No. 7 Villanova on Saturday, March 7 at 6 p.m. CT.
Quarterfinal action will air live on FS2 with John Fanta and Kim Adams handling the call with Meghan Caffrey on the sideline, while coverage switches to FS1 for the semifinals and championship game. Lisa Byington and Sarah Kustok will call the action in those games.
The Golden Eagles (22-7, 13-5) enter the tournament winning five of their last six games, including a 90-83 victory over No. 16/15 DePaul in the final game of the regular season. MU enters the tournament receiving votes in both the AP and USA Today Coaches' Polls for the first time this season.
Junior Selena Lott earned her first career postseason award this week and was chosen to the All-BIG EAST second team after leading MU with 15.0 points per game, which ranks ninth in the conference. Lauren Van Kluenen, Isabelle Spingola, and Camryn Taylor also rank in the top-30. Altia Anderson has been a force on the glass this season, averaging 6.8 per contest.
Taylor was chosen to the BIG EAST All-Freshman team and made a strong impact in her first season after averaging 9.6 points during BIG EAST play, which was the fourth-best mark among freshmen. She recorded double figures in scoring 10 times this season, including her first career double-double in a win over Seton Hall.
Head coach Megan Duffy was named BIG EAST Coach of the Year this week. In her first year at the helm, Duffy has kept Marquette at the top of the BIG EAST standings. At a 22-7 overall record, the Golden Eagles have tallied a fourth-consecutive 20-win campaign.
As a team, MU ranks first in the BIG EAST and seventh in the country in rebounding margin, averaging +10.4 this season. They also rank second in the conference and tenth in the country in assists per game, handing out an average of 18.2 with Lott leading the way individually dishing out 5.9 helpers each night.
MU 9-5 in the league tournament since realignment and earns a first-round bye for the fifth consecutive season and seventh all-time. The Golden Eagles have reached the tournament final for three straight seasons, including winning the 2017 crown.

No. 7 VILLANOVA (17-12, 11-7): Maddy Siegrist was the unanimous pick for BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and earned first team honors, while Mary Gedaka earned All-BIG EAST first team accolades for the Wildcats. The duo has led Villanova all season and combines for 36.5 points per game. In the conference, Villanova is allowing the fewest points per game from opponents, limiting them to just 59.5. The Wildcats earn the No. 7 seed though they finished in a five-way tie for third place with St. John's, Seton Hall, Butler and Creighton.

They are led by Junior Forward A'riana Gray who the BIG EAST leader in rebounds, averaging 9.2 per contest. She also ranks eighth in scoring with 15.8. The lone two conference wins for Xavier came at Georgetown on Jan. 10 and at home against Providence on Feb. 21
