#MUBB Faces Seton Hall Thursday In BIG EAST Quarterfinals

The No. 6 seed Marquette University men's basketball team (18-12, 8-10 BIG EAST) opens play at the BIG EAST Tournament presented by Jeep on Thursday, March 12 when the squad faces No. 3 seed Seton Hall (21-9, 13-5 BIG EAST) at 8:30 p.m. CT in Madison Square Garden.  FS1 will feature the television broadcast, with Gus Johnson (play-by-play), Bill Raftery (analyst) and Lisa Byington (reporter) calling the action.  The winner of Thursday's matchup would advance to play either DePaul/Xavier/Villanova in the semifinals on Friday night.

Marquette has advanced to at least the league tourney quarterfinals every season since joining the BIG EAST in 2005-06, the longest current run by any program in the conference.

The Golden Eagles are 12-14 all-time in the BIG EAST Tournament and 24-29 in postseason events since joining a league for the first time in 1989-90.  MU has made a total of three trips to the semifinals, including last season against Seton Hall (L, 81-79). The Golden Eagles were defeated in 2010 by Georgetown, 80-57, and Pittsburgh, 68-61, in 2008.
Howard Named All-BIG EAST First TeamÂ

Senior guard Markus Howard was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team for the second-straight season, the league office announced Sunday afternoon.

Howard leads the nation in scoring and set the league's single-season record for scoring average (28.7 ppg.) in BIG EAST games, breaking the previous mark of 27.8 points per game by Boston College's Troy Bell in 2002-03.

The Chandler, Arizona native has scored 30-or-more points on 15 occasions this season, including 10 times in conference action. Â Over the course of the last five outings, in which he has scored at least 30 points in every game, Howard is averaging 33.2 points per contest while shooting 49.0 percent (48-of-98) from the floor overall and 24-of-48 (50.0 percent) from behind the 3-point line.
