Eichhorn is just the second individual in Marquette history to earn GCAA All-America honors
NORMAN, Oklahoma – Hunter Eichhorn became the second golfer in Marquette University history to earn NCAA Division I PING All-America recognition from the Golf Coaches Association of America, it was announced on Thursday.
"I'm extremely happy for Hunter, to be named an All-American is a tremendous honor," Marquette head coach Steve Bailey said. "To garner All-American status, you have to show up every week. What makes Hunter special, is his ability to find a way when he doesn't have his best stuff. This award is a byproduct of his drive and unmatched self-belief. I'm proud of the man he's become and the way he represents our program."
The junior earned PING All-Midwest Region accolades last week for the third time alongside teammate Tyler Leach and is recognized as an All-American for the first time in his career.
Eichhorn notched his third straight season with a sub-72 scoring average, finishing the year at a career-best 70.81 (-0.76 versus par) with 14 rounds at par or lower out of 21. He earned a pair of tournament victories as a junior at the Windon Memorial Classic on Sept. 16-17 and at the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills on Oct. 6-8.
The Carney, Michigan native was also a member of the watch list for the Fred Haskins Award, honoring the year's outstanding college golfer.
Eichhorn enters his senior year in 2020-21 holding Marquette's lowest career scoring average (71.50), better than 2009 Byron Nelson Award winner Mike Van Sickle's 71.69 strokes. Van Sickle is the only other golfer in program history to earn PING All-America honors, having done so the final three years of his MU career, including first team accolades as a senior in 2008-09.
