Murray named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

Murray helped MU to a 2-0 week by hitting .448 with 1.43 blocks per set
NEW YORK - Marquette University women's volleyball player Carsen Murray was named the BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Week for women's volleyball, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Murray helped the Golden Eagles (13-2, 4-0 BIG EAST) to a 2-0 weekend with a 3-1 win over UConn at home on Friday and a sweep of DePaul in Chicago on Sunday afternoon. The middle blocker combined to hit .448 (16-3-29) with an average of 2.29 kills and 1.43 blocks per set. Murray posted nine kills and four blocks in the win over the Huskies and followed that up by hitting .462 (7-1-13) with a match-high six blocks in the sweep of the Blue Demons.
The honor is the first of the redshirt freshman's career and the third time this season a Marquette student-athlete has earned a league player of the week honor. Murray currently ranks second in the BIG EAST Conference with a .348 hitting percentage (78-16-178)Â and is ninth in blocks per set (1.04).
The Golden Eagles resume conference play on Friday at Providence before a Sunday afternoon matchup with Creighton in Omaha, Nebraska.
