Meet the Volleyball Newcomers: Megan Lund

Sophomore makes transition from manager to practice player to active roster
Sophomore Megan Lund may have the most unorthodox path to the Golden Eagles' roster.
"I talked to the coaching staff before coming to Marquette. They didn't have room on the roster, but I was already coming here so I would be at Marquette anyway," Lund said. "I was a manager for a semester, then last semester they asked me to be a practice player on the team. Then at the end of that, they asked me to be on the team for this semester. It's very unconventional."
Theis had nothing but good things to say about Lund's work ethic and personality.
"She's a terrific kid from a volleyball family," Theis said. "We just love her. She's extremely mature, easy to talk to. She'll come into practice and say, 'Ryan, how you doing?' As a sophomore, she's asking about my day, (telling me) what's going on in her life."
As far as what Lund brings to the roster, Theis said she's valuable not only in practice, but also for the team's environment.
"She's just a great culture kid and good to be around," Theis said. "She handles heat really well. People rip balls at her really hard, that's not a problem for her. She really helps us out in the back row, once in a while helps us in the front row too."
Even though Lund may not see much time on the court this season, she has as big a role as any.
"My role is just to help in any way to make the team better," Lund said. "I'm really excited to start playing in conference games. I'm looking forward to getting to know my teammates and the volleyball culture more."

- Favorite sports memory: "My 18s year for club volleyball we got third in the nation, which was pretty exciting."
- Biggest motivation: "My family, I really want to do well for them because they've given me so many opportunities. They motivate me every day to be my best."
