
Volleyball sweeps Creighton on Saturday night

The Golden Eagles earned their third win at Creighton in a sweep

OMAHA, Nebraska – The No. 25 Marquette University women's volleyball team picked up a sweep of No. 19 Creighton on Saturday evening at D.J. Sokol Arena.Â

Senior outside hitter Kaitlyn Lines led the Golden Eagles (4-2) with nine kills and provided the match winner after CU pulled the third set to a single point at 24-23. Lines also added a pair of blocks and two digs on the night while hitting .417. Taylor Wolf notched eight kills and a match-high 18 assists as MU hit .259 as a team.
Graduate student Savannah Rennie posted seven kills, a block and three service errors in the contest and led the way to a 25-21 opening set win. Marquette recorded five aces in the frame and Rennie posted back-to-back ones to give MU an 18-15 lead after it trailed 15-14.
The Golden Eagles cruised to a 25-14 win in the second set while hitting .417 (16-1-36) and recording a 93% side-out clip.

Creighton (4-2) kept the third set tight, but MU was ultimately able to pull away late for the 25-23 win and the sweep. The Jays staved off one match-point attempt for MU before the Lines winner.
It was CU's first home 3-0 loss since a 2018 NCAA Second Round loss to No. 22 Washington at D.J. Sokol Arena. Creighton holds a 20-5 advantage in the all-time series, which began in October 1980.Â
Both matches in Omaha this weekend were non-conference contests.
The Golden Eagles begin BIG EAST Conference action on Friday, Feb. 12 against DePaul in Milwaukee. Creighton comes to Marquette on Feb. 19-20 for a pair of matches at the Al McGuire Center.
