Megan Menzuber Named BIG EAST Attacker of the Week

The fifth-year senior has scored 15 goals so far this season
NEW YORK – Marquette University redshirt senior Megan Menzuber was named the BIG EAST Attacker of the Week while senior goalie Sophia Leva was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday.
A Chanhassen, Minn., native, Menzuber is off to a hot start in 2021 as the BIG EAST's goals and points leader, averaging 3.75 goals per game and 5.50 points over the first four games. The redshirt-senior attacker tallied a combined 15 goals, seven assists and 22 points against Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Oregon and Kent State, which included a nine-point (6g, 3a) outing against the Bearcats, a five-goal showing against the Ducks and a six-point (3g, 3a) performance against the Golden Flashes. Marquette went 2-0 over the last week, in which Menzuber totaled eight goals and three assists in victories over Oregon and Kent State.
She leads the team in points (22), goals (15) and assists (7). Her 22 points are the most ever by a Golden Eagle women's lacrosse player through the first four games of a season. For her career, she ranks No. 4 all-time at MU in points (145), No. 5 in goals (102) and No. 5 in assists (43).
For the first time in her career at MU, senior goalie Sophia Leva was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. The Macedon, N.Y., native has played in all four games and holds a 2-1 record. She's tallied 27 saves and holds a .587 save percentage, facing 64 shots. She saved a career-high nine shots in the season opener against Cincinnati and has saved at least five shots in each of the four games.
Marquette (2-2) returns to action on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Central time with a home game against Central Michigan at Valley Fields.Â
