Erin Dowdle Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

The redshirt senior anchored an MU defense that held CMU to four goals Friday
NEW YORK – Marquette University redshirt senior Erin Dowdle was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
A Northbrook, Ill., native, Dowdle anchored a Marquette defense which surrendered just four goals in a 15-4 win over Central Michigan on Friday. She totaled five draw controls, three ground balls and a caused turnover, as the Golden Eagles allowed just eight shots on goal and outshot the Chippewas by a 41-17 margin.  Â
So far in 2021, Dowdle leads the Golden Eagles in ground balls (12) and caused turnovers (6) while ranking second in draw controls (19). She ranks No. 5 all-time at MU in career DC's (94), No. 10 in CT's (46) and No. 12 in GB's (73).
Marquette (3-2) has won three straight games and returns to action on Sunday at 11 a.m. Central time with a home game against No. 25 Louisville at Valley Fields.Â
