Forward helped Sooners to NCAA trip in 2020-21
The Marquette University men's basketball team has added former Oklahoma forward Kur Kuath (KERR KWETH) to the 2021-22 roster, first-year head coach Shaka Smart announced Wednesday afternoon.
Kuath (6-10, 220) arrives in Milwaukee after spending the last three seasons at Oklahoma. In 2020-21, he contributed 5.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots per outing in 17.1 minutes per night. The Sooner advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament last season and he started 15 of the team's 27 outings. As a redshirt junior in 2019-20, Kuath played in 30 games and earned one starting assignment. He was awarded a medical redshirt in 2018-19 after suffering a back injury and played in just six outings.
"We are extremely excited about Kur joining our program," Smart said. "He's a player who we got to know as an opponent while he was at Oklahoma and he's one of the best two-way bigs we played against. On the defensive end, he has the ability to block shots, defend the pick-and-roll and guard multiple positions. Offensively, he's a very good mover, finishes well and is terrific in the pick-and-roll game, which is big for our style of play. Kur is a great teammate who has been a big part of winning and brings a veteran presence to our roster."
Kuath played two seasons (2016-18) at Salt Lake Community College in Utah, averaging 10.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game as a sophomore in 2017-18. He helped the team to a 30-4 overall record and conference, region and district titles.Â
He was named to the all-region team and earned NJCAA Third Team All-America accolades after finishing among the national leaders in blocked shots.
As a senior at Kearns High School in Utah, Kuath helped the program to the state championship game his senior season and contributed 11.0 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.9 blocks per outing.
Kuath will arrive on campus this summer and have one season of eligibility with the Golden Eagles.
