Eichhorn is honored for the eighth time in his career
NEW YORK – Marquette University graduate student Hunter Eichhorn was honored on Wednesday afternoon as the BIG EAST Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for his play on Monday and Tuesday at the Windon Memorial Classic.
Eichhorn tied for third with a 6-over 207 following Tuesday's final round at Lake Shore Country Club. The reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year was the defending champion of the event and was alone in first place at the conclusion on Monday's opening round with a 5-under 66. He posted four birdies in the first with an eagle on the par-5 13th hole, before ending his round with a bogey on the par-4 18th. He wrapped up his second round Tuesday at 1-over and shot a 2-under 69 in the final round.
The Carney, Michigan native has been honored as the league's player of the week on seven other occasions, most recently on April 1 after he tied for fifth at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. He earned the honor three different times during his last fall campaign in 2019.
"Just to see Hunter's game get back to what he's capable of doing is big for us," Marquette head coach Steve Bailey said on Tuesday at the conclusion of the Windon Memorial Classic. "He's playing as good of golf as I've ever seen – and he's played at a really high level. To know that he's made strides is really promising for us moving forward."
The Golden Eagles finished 12th in the team standings with a 6-over 858 (275-292-291) after a 7-over 291 in the third round. Marquette resumes action on Oct. 2-4 in Sugar Grove, Illinois at the Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate.
