#MUBB Ranked 22nd In Nation, Lewis Earns Weekly Honors

Golden Eagles ranked for first time since 2019-20
The Marquette University men's basketball team is ranked 22nd in the nation in the latest Associated Press Top-25 Poll, the outlet announced Monday morning.

MU is one of five BIG EAST Conference teams (Villanova - 14, Providence – 17, UConn – 20, Xavier – 21, MU – 22) currently ranked in the top-25, the most since February of 2020.

Forward Justin Lewis, who led the team to a pair of victories against nationally ranked squads, was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week and the Naismith Men's Player of the Week.

Lewis led the Golden Eagles to a 57-54 victory at No. 11 Villanova and a 75-64 win against No. 20 Xavier. At Villanova, Lewis' 3-pointer with 11.9 seconds left was the game-winning basket. He scored a team-high 21 points. In the triumph over Xavier, Lewis posted game highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds. For the two games, he shot 9-of-15 from 3-point range. Â

The Baltimore native earned Freshman of the Week accolades in 2020-21, but Monday's selection was his first as the league's top overall player.

Marquette, picked to finish ninth in the preseason BIG EAST poll, is currently on a six-game winning streak in league action and owns a share of third place.
