Foust, Henry, Soccodato and Steiner to captain Golden Eagles
MILWAUKEE — With the 2022 season just weeks away, the Marquette women's lacrosse team has officially announced Lydia Foust, Ellie Henry, Emma Soccodato and Leigh Steiner as team captains.
Â
"Those players were an overwhelming choice by the team, and all four of them are exceptional," said Marquette head coach Meredith Black. "You want your leaders to be doing things the right way. They're always staying after, always promoting the right thing, doing the right thing, making good decisions off the field. They've done a great job and the team is really excited about them as captains."
Â
Foust, a midfielder, is the only senior among the four captains. She is coming off the best season of her career, a campaign which saw her earn All-BIG EAST First Team honors in 2021. The Redwood City, California, native is the team's top returning scorer from a season ago, when she totaled 28 goals and six assists, while also winning the team's 'Hustle' Award.
Â
The lone captain who served as such last year, Ellie Henry started all but one game in 2021. The junior defender currently ranks eighth all-time at MU in draw controls with 69 in her career, including 23 last season.
Â
A junior midfielder out of Huntington, New York, Soccodato was a consistent option for the Golden Eagles in 2021. She finished the year with nine goals and three assists, and was one of just seven Marquette players to start in all 16 contests.
Â
The fourth team captain, Steiner, is the youngest of the group. Just a sophomore this year, the midfielder is coming off a stellar freshman campaign in which she totaled 17 goals and 10 assists. She led all Marquette freshman in points, goals and assists while playing all 16 games and making eight starts.
