Bray and Skrabak earn BIG EAST Weekly Awards

Bray earns consecutive top freshman honors; Skrabak is league's top defensive player
NEW YORK - Marquette University middle blocker Hattie Bray has earned BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Week honors for women's volleyball in consecutive weeks, while libero Carly Skrabak is the league's defensive player of the week.
Bray and Skrabak led the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 record with wins at DePaul and Butler. Bray hit .491 with 3.88 kills per set (31 total) and five blocks, while tying Aubrey Hamilton for the team lead with 33.5 points (4.19 per set).
Bray landed a career-high 21 kills on .500 hitting with three blocks in MU's five-set win at DePaul on Wednesday evening. Her 21 kills at DPU are the most for an MU player since former AVCA All-American Allie Barber recorded 23 in the 2019 BIG EAST Championship title match against St. John's on Nov. 30, 2019. She hit .474 at Butler on Friday night with 10 kills and a pair of blocks and is second to teammate Carsen Murray (.411) in the league in hitting percentage at .359.

Skrabak posted 36 digs (4.50 per set) and currently sits fourth in the BIG EAST in digs per frame (4.46)Â She notched 19 on Wednesday night at DePaul and added 17 and five assists in Friday night's sweep of Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
It is the third weekly honor this season for Bray, who was the league's top freshman last week and earned honor roll recognition on Oct. 3. Skrabak also earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors on Aug. 29 for her play in season-opening matches against then-No. 11 Kentucky and Ohio.
The No. 17 Golden Eagles continue league play with home matches this weekend against Georgetown and Villanova on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week:
Norah Sis, Creighton, So., OH
Sis led Creighton to yet another 2-0 BIG EAST weekend as the Bluejays collected their 12th consecutive win. The sophomore's 5.50 kills and 6.00 points per set were the best of the BIG EAST as Creighton conquered both Seton Hall and St. John's in straight sets. Against Seton Hall, Sis contributed 13 kills, eight digs and a block assist. At St. John's, Sis became the first BIG EAST athlete of 2022 to produce 20 kills in just three sets. On the year, she averages the most kills (4.11) and points (4.52) of any conference competitor, producing more than 20 kills on seven separate occasions.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Carly Skrabak, Marquette, Sr., DS
Skrabak anchored a defense which led Marquette to two BIG EAST victories this week. At DePaul, the senior defensive specialist recorded a match-best 19 digs and three assists. At Butler, she produced 17 digs in just three sets, adding five assists in the victory. This season, Skrabak sits fourth in the BIG EAST in digs (4.46).

Bray repeats as Freshman of the Week after leading all BIG EAST rookies in hitting percentage (.491), kills (31, 3.88) and points (33.5, 4.19). Her career-high 21 kills at DePaul were the most by any Golden Eagle since 2019 and essential in Marquette's 3-2 victory. During Marquette's two-win week, Bray, and teammate Aubrey Hamilton, led the Golden Eagles with 33.5 points. On the year, her hitting percentage (.359) is second in the BIG EAST, only behind teammate Carsen Murray.

In a 1-1, Shackelford contributed 27 kills and nine blocks (8 BA, 1 BS). This week, she ranked fifth in the BIG EAST for blocks (1.12) and ninth in points (4.00).
Allie Garland, UConn, Sr., OH/RS
In a 2-0 week, Garland recorded 27 kills with nine digs. Her .429 hitting percentage was good for fifth in the conference.
Kiana Schmitt, Creighton, Sr., MB/RS
In a 2-0 week, Schmitt led the BIG EAST in total blocks (10), averaging 1.67 per set. On offense, she added 16 kills 2.67).
Brooklyn Cink, Xavier, Sr., OH
In a 2-0 week, Cink led Xavier with 32 kills, including a 22-kill performance at St. John's (3-2). On the week, she was fourth in conference in kills, averaging 4.00 per set. The senior added 25 digs, four service aces, four block assists, and a solo block in an all-around solid week.
Carrigan O'Reilly, Xavier, Sr., RS/S
In a 2-0 week, O'Reilly led Xavier in total assists (81) with a match-best performance at St. John's (46 assists). The senior notched the 28th double-double of her career in Queens, adding 11 digs and six kills, three blocks assists and a solo block. On the week, she ranked fifth in the BIG EAST in assists (10.12).
