Masters joins MU as Director of Player Development and Video
MILWAUKEE — The Marquette women's basketball team announced the addition of Jovahn Masters to its staff as Director of Player Development and Video on Thursday morning.Â
Â
Masters spent last season on staff at Xavier, where he began as a graduate assistant and was promoted to interim assistant coach in November of 2021. He oversaw all video operations for the Musketeers, including film exchange and upload, daily breakdown and scout film. Additionally, Masters assisted with scouting reports and summer camps, worked with players in film and on-court workouts, coordinated the team's male practice players, and served as an academic mentor for student-athletes.
Â
"We are excited to welcome Jovahn to the Marquette family and our basketball tradition," said Marquette head coach Megan Duffy. "He will be a huge asset to help our players on and off the court. Jovahn will have his hands in a lot of important areas such as player development, scouting and recruiting to help our staff impact these tremendous student-athletes."
Â
At Marquette, Masters will aid the staff with several key duties, including handling all video breakdown, video exchange and assisting with scouting. Other responsibilities will include assisting in day-to-day practice and game operations in addition to duties as assigned on the road and with travel and providing support in post-season player development which includes film study and on-court application. He will also oversee the male practice players.
Â
Prior to his time at Xavier, Masters spent two seasons in various roles at NAIA Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin, from 2019-21. There, he began as an assistant coach and director of basketball operations and was later promoted to lead assistant coach.Â
Â
Masters also previously served as the head coach of the junior varsity boys at La Crosse Aquinas HS from 2018-19.Â
Â
A native of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Masters earned a bachelor's degree in social studies education from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in the fall of 2019.
