2023 class ranked as high as 17th in the country
The Marquette University men's basketball program has signed Al Amadou (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside Chestnut Hill Academy), Zaide Lowery (Springfield, Mo./La Lumiere School) and Tre Norman (Boston, Mass./Worcester Academy) to National Letters of Intent, head coach Shaka Smart announced Wednesday morning.
All three will arrive on campus in the summer of 2023 and have four seasons of eligibility with the Golden Eagles. The three-member class is ranked as high ast 17th in the nation by 247Sports.com.
"We are extremely excited about this group," Smart said. All three come from families that have instilled in them rock-solid values that align with what our program strives to be. They possess within them the capability to become highly-successful players and people at Marquette.
"We are grateful for the trust that each young man and his family has put in us," Smart added. "Marquette nation, you're really going to enjoy getting to know these three guys!"
Amadou (6-9, 195) is the 113th-best prospect in the country according to 247Sports.com and the second-best talent in the state. He spent the 2021-22 campaign at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia and helped the Blue Devils to a 16-8 overall record, earning All-Inter Academic League Second Team honors.
Amadou competed for Philly Pride on the AAU circuit, the same program as current Marquette guard Stevie Mitchell. He also attended Quakertown High School and Bishop McDevitt High School.
"Al is just learning how special he can become as a person and basketball player," Smart said. "Not only does he value relationships, growth, and victory, he also possesses as much, or more, potential as anyone we've signed.
"He's exactly the type of young man we pride ourselves in developing into a special contributor to our program," Smart added. "Al's athleticism and versatility on both ends of the floor give him an extremely exciting future as someone capable of impacting winning in a wide variety of ways."
Lowery (6-5, 190) enters his first season at La Lumiere School in La Porte, Indiana, in 2022-23 after playing at Kickapoo High School in Springfield, Missouri, the previous two seasons. Lowery helped Kickapoo to the MSHSAA Class 6 state championship as a sophomore in 2020-21 and averaged 15.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game as a junior in 2021-22. He shot 55.0 percent from the floor last season and 38.0 percent from long distance.
A member of Missouri Flight on the AAU circuit, Lowery was coached by Dale Lambert.
"Zaide is just scratching the surface of who he will become as a player," Smart said. It's exciting to see how much he has grown in the year plus that we have known him. He is an extremely special mover, who brings great versatility to both ends of the floor.
"His length, quickness, and anticipation make him an ideal candidate for high deflections," Smart added. "Most importantly, Zaide consistently demonstrates a desire to be a part of something bigger than himself."
Norman (6-4, 197) is a nationally ranked prospect (83rd – 247Sports.com, 91st – ESPN.com) from Worcester Academy in Massachusetts who helped the program to the NEPSAC Class AA championship in 2021-22 under head coach Jamie Sullivan. The Hilltoppers posted a 23-7 mark and Norman netted 17 points in the championship game. For the season he contributed 19.3 points and 7.5 rebounds and was named All-NEPSAC Class AA.
On the AAU circuit he has competed with Boston Amateur Basketball Club (BABC) and averaged over 20.0 points per game at the EYBL Peach Jam last July.
"Tre is a flat-out winner with a college-ready body," Smart said. "His competitive character is especially advanced for his age and he thrives in the biggest moments. He prides himself in toughness, basketball IQ, making people better, and of course, winning.
"Tre's size, versatile skill set, and win anyway mentality align with who we work to be," Smart added. He has the opportunity to be a great leader and winner at Marquette."
