Golden Eagles are unable to overcome slow start in first home loss of the season
MILWAUKEE — The Marquette women's basketball team (9-3, 2-1 BIG EAST) suffered its first home loss of the season Wednesday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center, falling to Colorado 71-48.
"This was a great job by Colorado, I thought they were tremendous," said Marquette head coach Megan Duffy. "They played their game tough. Defensively they were very good, and they shot the ball extremely well. I'm disappointed with how we came out, then we never really fixed it or got it together. We'll go back to the drawing board, take a few days off for Christmas then figure it out for BIG EAST play."
Marquette got off to a slow start to the contest and struggled to find offensive rhythm early, as the Golden Eagles missed their first nine shots and faced a 12-0 deficit out of the gates. While MU committed just 12 turnovers in the game, it shot a season-low 32.8 percent (20-of-61) from the field.
After scoring just 13 points in the first 20 minutes and facing a 35-13 deficit at the break, the second half was much more evenly contested, Colorado holding a 36-35 advantage in the last two quarters. The Marquette bench stepped up to contribute 25 of the team's 48 points, led by a nine-point effort from freshman guard Mackenzie Hare.
Senior guard Jordan King led all Marquette players with 10 points on the afternoon, to go along with team-best marks of seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The Buffaloes (10-3, 0-1 Pac-12) were paced statistically by Quay Miller, who finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

With her fourth assist of the afternoon, Jordan King passed Courtney Romeiser (1989-93) on the program's all-time assist list to move into ninth all-time.
