Golden Eagles to play nine contests at home during 2023 slate
MILWAUKEE — The Marquette University women's lacrosse team and head coach Meredith Black announced the team's 2022 regular season schedule Tuesday afternoon. This year's slate includes 17 regular season games and nine contests at home.
"We are very excited about this year's schedule," said Marquette head coach Meredith Black. "We have a great balance of home and away games, and it is always exciting to have some new teams on the schedule that we have not played before. It is also great to be able to open up the season at home in the dome. We are all anxious and excited for the 2023 season!"
Marquette's nine games at Valley Fields this season tie the 2018 season for most home games in program history. This will mark the program's 11th season, after launching in 2013.Â
The campaign will begin on Feb. 12, as Marquette hosts San Diego State at Valley Fields. MU will then head out on a two-game road trip, with games at Youngstown State on Feb. 17, and Cincinnati on Feb. 19.
The Golden Eagles then host four of their next five home games, facing Northwestern (Feb. 23) and Detroit Mercy (March 5) at Valley Fields, followed by a trip to UC Davis (March 12) and two more games at home against Niagara (March 16) and Louisville (March 19).Â
The month of March wraps up with a pair of games in the Great Lake State as MU faces Eastern Michigan on March 24, then Central Michigan on March 26. The squad opens BIG EAST play on the road at Georgetown on April 1, before playing its non-conference finale at home against Ohio State on April 4.Â
Marquette will then host a pair of league foes as it takes on Xavier and UConn on April 8 and April 15, respectively, before heading on the road to face Butler on April 19, and Villanova on April 23.
Senior Day will take place on April 29, as the Golden Eagles host reigning league champion Denver at Valley Fields. This year's BIG EAST Conference Tournament will be held in Storrs, Connecticut, with the semifinals being played on May 5, and the championship game slated for May 7.Â
