Golden Eagles will host Ball State on Wednesday in first-round matchup
MILWAUKEE — The Marquette women's basketball team has accepted a bid to the 2022 Postseason WNIT, and will host Ball State in the first round, it was announced Monday afternoon. The Golden Eagles and the Cardinals will face off on Wednesday, March 16th at 7 p.m. inside the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee.Â
The tournament features 64 teams and will run from March 16 to April 2, with the championship game being broadcast on CBS Sports Network on Saturday, April 2. Each game will be played on campus sites.
This will be Marquette's 10th time competing in the WNIT, its most recent appearance coming in 2014. The Golden Eagles won the tournament in 2008 with an 81-66 win over Michigan State, and made a run to the championship game two years prior in 2006. In total, Marquette has played in 23 WNIT games, hosting nine of them.
After finishing the 2021-22 campaign with a 21-10 overall mark, the Golden Eagles automatically qualified for the WNIT as the top-seeded BIG EAST team to not make the NCAA Tournament. Seton Hall is also a part of the field as an at-large bid.
Tickets for the first round will be available to the general public starting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15th. Season ticket holders will receive a separate email on how to purchase tickets.
