Garcia Earns Another BIG EAST Weekly Honor

Senior attacker scored six goals with an assist in MU's win over Kent State
NEW YORK — Marquette senior attacker Shea Garcia was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her performance in MU's 20-5 win over Kent State last Saturday. The Manhasset, New York, native got the Golden Eagles off to a dominant start, scoring the first six goals of the game in just 8:31. She finished the contest with seven points on six goals and an assist, her second six-goal performance of the season. This is Garcia's second Weekly Honor Roll appearance, after previously making the list on Feb. 14.

LaPrise totaled a BIG EAST-best 12 points and eight goals last week as the Huskies went 2-0 with wins over Manhattan and Cornell. Against the Jaspers, the senior tallied two goals, two assists and three draw controls, before matching the BIG EAST single-game high this season with eight points off six goals and two assists against the Big Red. She added a ground ball in each contest. Â

Sydney Watson, UConn, Sr., M
Watson filled the stat sheet in home wins over Manhattan and Cornell last week, tallying nine points off seven goals and two assists to go along with 14 draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls. All three goals against the Jaspers on Wednesday came in the first half of a 16-6 victory. She went for four goals and two dishes against the Big Red, adding nine draws as well.Â
BIG EAST Defensive Player Of The Week
Sam Thacker, Denver, Jr., D
Facing two of the top scoring offenses in Division I last week, the Thacker-led defense helped limit both No. 1 Boston College and No. 8 Michigan to single-digit goals in a 1-1 week for the 11th-ranked Pioneers. Both teams were held to season-low goal totals, including nine for the Eagles and eight for the Wolverines. Thacker tallied four caused turnovers per game, while adding a total of three ground balls and four draw controls over the two-game span.Â
BIG EAST Freshman Of The Week
Lauren Black, Denver, Fr., A
Against a pair of top-10 foes, Black totaled five points off two goals and three assists. In a narrow setback to No. 1 Boston College, the freshman attacker had two assists. In Sunday's win at No. 8 Michigan, Black had two goals, an assist and a ground ball. Down 8-4 late in the third, Black helped the Pioneers rally back for the 9-8 victory, assisting on Denver's first goal of the five-goal run and scoring the game-tying goal with 5:10 remaining.Â
