Lydia Foust Named BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week

Senior totaled six points, three ground balls and three caused turnovers on Sunday
NEW YORK — Marquette senior Lydia Foust has been named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week after following her performance in a 19-13 win over Central Michigan on Sunday afternoon. The Redwood City, California, native tied her career high with five goals in the contest, while also recording an assist, three ground balls and three caused turnovers. She took eight shots in the game, seven of which came on goal.Â
This was the first weekly honor of the season for Foust, who was named to the preseason all-BIG EAST team.Â

Kate Shaffer, Connecticut, Jr., A
Shaffer was the BIG EAST's top scorer last week, tallying 11 goals and one assist for 12 points in a 2-0 stretch for the Huskies. The junior had six of UConn's 16 goals in a 16-11 win at Albany on Tuesday, before going for five goals and an assist in a 15-11 home win over Hofstra on Saturday. Shaffer notched the game winner against the Pride while also adding a ground ball in each contest. Her 5.5 goals per game and 6.0 points per game led all BIG EAST players last week.Â

Sam Thacker, Denver, Jr., D
Thacker led the Denver defense which limited opponents to a BIG EAST-best 7.50 goals per game, including just four by Drexel in a 10-4 victory on Friday. The Pioneers held an impressive advantage in shots last week – 75-38 overall and 55-25 on goal – while registering 26 caused turnovers. Thacker had two caused turnovers per game, while also adding 10 draw controls and three ground balls, including two in a win over San Diego State on Sunday.    Â

Sydney Pappas, Villanova, Fr., A
Pappas had a career day on Saturday in a win against UC Davis, recording careers bests in goals and points (five), shots (12), shots on goal (eight) and ground balls (two).
