Foust, Schumar and Bireley honored by the league following MU's 24-17 win over Butler
NEW YORK — Following Marquette's 24-17 win over Butler last Saturday, three Golden Eagle players were honored by the BIG EAST for the week ending April 17. Senior Lydia Foust was named the league's Midfielder of the Week, while freshman attack/midfielder Meg Bireley was named Freshman of the Week and junior attacker Mary Schumar earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll.
Foust helped lead the Golden Eagles to a record-setting 24 goals as a team, netting a career-high six of her own. She also contributed three assists to tie her career high, totaling a career-best nine points on the contest. Her goal and point totals each fell just one shy of tying program records in their respective categories. Foust also recorded a ground ball, a caused turnover and a draw control, while not committing any turnovers. Six of her eight shots in the game came on goal. This was the second Midfielder of the Week honor for Foust this season, previously earning the honor on March 28.

She followed up her first-career hat trick the previous week with another this week, while leading all BIG EAST freshmen in points while tying for the most goals by a freshman on the week. This is her second-consecutive week and second time this season earning the honor.
Schumar made her way into the Marquette record books as she tied the program single-game assist record with seven. Her seven assists are tied for second-most in the NCAA this season, and are the most by any BIG EAST player in 2022. As a team, the Golden Eagles also tied their program assist record with 14 in the contest. Schumar also scored a goal to total eight points.
