MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's lacrosse team continues BIG EAST Conference play at St. John's on Saturday, April 9 at DaSilva Memorial Field in Queens, New York.

Following the matchup on the East Coast, Marquette has a quick turnaround heading into a Tuesday, April 12 tilt against No. 16 Notre Dame at Valley Fields.
THE MATCHUP: The Golden Eagles have won eight of the nine all-time meetings against St. John's, including eight straight victories. The Red Storm won the first matchup between the two, 15-10, on April 27, 2013, in Queens, but MU has won the last eight games. Three of the last four contests between the two have been decided by just one goal and four of the nine games all-time have been as well.
Last season, Marquette won both meetings, a 9-8 overtime win in Milwaukee, and a 15-14 victory at DaSilva Field in the regular season finale on April 30. Attackman Devon Cowan posted a hat trick in the first meeting and scored four times in the second game, including twice in the final 85 seconds
.
Previous five meetings:
4/8/17 A W, 17-9
4/7/18 A W, 11-10 (OT)
4/6/19 H W, 12-8
4/14/21 H W, 9-8 (OT)
4/30/21 A W, 15-14
MARQUETTE (3-6): The Golden Eagles picked up a 16-11 victory over Providence in their BIG EAST opener on April 2 in Milwaukee. Attackman Bobby O'Grady led Marquette with career highs of six goals and seven points in the win, while Cowan posted six points (three goals, three assists) in his first game in a month due to injury.
O'Grady earned his third BIG EAST Freshman of the Week nod on Monday after setting a new MU freshman record for goals in a game and tying Conor Gately's 2013 freshman record with seven points.
Face-off specialist Luke Williams also went 18-of-28 at the dot and added his third goal of the year along with eight ground balls in the win. Williams and Thomas Washington each rank in the top four of the BIG EAST individually in winning percentage and MU's cumulative winning percentage of .581 (132-of-227) would rank as a single-season program record. MU is currently third among league teams and all four of Georgetown, Villanova, MU and Denver are facing-off at a clip of .568-or-higher.
Even with the return of Cowan, the Golden Eagles are still without the services of Russell Melendez, who was leading MU in points early this season, and All-BIG EAST defenseman Zach Granger. Attackman Nolan Rappis and midfielder Griffin Fries had each played significant roles and are sidelined.
ST. JOHN'S (2-8): The Red Storm has won two games this season, a 9-7 home victory over Manhattan on March 5 and a March 22 win, 17-14, at Fairfield. Freshman attackman Brian Kelly leads SJU with 31 points on 16 goals and 15 assists, while redshirt senior Jonathan Huber has a team-best 25 goals. Dylan Willis leads the Red Storm with 18 assists.
St. John's is last in the BIG EAST in both goals per game (8.80) and scoring defense with 173 goals allowed in 10 games.
