The Golden Eagles combined for a 3.49 GPA
LEXINGTON, Kentucky - The Marquette University women's volleyball team has earned the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2021-22 season, the USMC/AVCA announced on Monday.Â
The Golden Eagles are one of 215 NCAA Division I teams to earn the honor this year and compiled a 3.49 grade-point average during the academic year. Fifteen of the 18 individuals on the roster were named to Marquette's Athletics Director Honor Roll for the spring semester with GPAs above 3.0, while Claire Nuessmeier, Samantha Naber, Ellie Koontz and Megan Lund each earned perfect 4.0 GPAs. Nuessmeier, Lund and Hope Werch all had 4.0s during the fall semester.
"Academic achievement does not happen by accident," said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. "I'm so proud of the hundreds of coaching staffs that make excellence in the classroom a priority."
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale. Marquette has earned the honor eight times, including in each of the last four academic years.
