Sophomore guard earns honor for second time
Marquette's Kam Jones has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Connecticut forward Alex Karaban has been selected BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Jones helped lift the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 week. Karaban's Huskies were 1-1. It's the second weekly honor for Jones this season, while Karaban has captured honors three times.

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Kam Jones, Marquette, G, So. – Jones was the game's high scorer in both Marquette victories. He scored 22 points in a 74-53 win at Seton Hall and netted 20 points in an 83-75 home victory against No. 22 Providence. For the two games, the sophomore shot 57.1 percent from the field, including 9-of-17 from 3-point range. Jones leads the team in scoring with a 16.4 average.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Alex Karaban, Connecticut, F, Fr. – Karaban averaged 12.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week. In an 86-56 victory against Butler, he registered 15 points, which included three 3-pointers, and grabbed five rebounds. Karaban shot 44.4 percent from the floor and 54.5 from beyond the arc. For the season, he is third on the team in scoring at 10.1 points per game.

BIG EAST Honor Roll
Umoja Gibson, DePaul, Gr., G – Averaged 19.0 points, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals in a 1-1 week against ranked opponents. Had a game-high 22 points in a win over first-place Xavier (73-72).

Bryce Hopkins, Providence, F-G, So. – In a 1-1 week, posted double-doubles in a loss at No. 20 Marquette (83-75) and a win against DePaul (75-64). Averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds.

Kadary Richmond, Seton Hall, G, Jr, --Â Averaged 14.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals in a 1-1 week. Had a game-high 18 points and 10 boards in a win against No. 15 UConn (67-66).

Brandon Slater, Villanova, Jr., F – In a 2-0 week, averaged 14.5 points and 3.0 rebounds. Scored all 14 of his points in the second half in a victory at St. John's (57-49).

Zach Freemantle, Xavier, Sr., FÂ -- Freemantle averaged 24.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in a 1-1 week. Had 30 points and 11 boards in a win versus Georgetown (95-82).
