Marotta, Hare Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

Marotta named to Weekly Honor Roll, while Hare earns Freshman of the Week Honors
NEW YORK — After helping Marquette to a 2-0 showing last week, forward Chloe Marotta and guard Mackenzie Hare each garnered weekly honor recognition from the BIG EAST.
Marotta was named to the league's Weekly Honor Roll after having a stellar week in which she averaged 16.5 points and 15.0 rebounds per outing. The senior brought down a game-high 16 rebounds in Wednesday's win over Xavier, before posting a 27-point, 14-rebound double-double at Butler on Sunday. This was the fourth Weekly Honor Roll appearance of her career, and her third of the season.Â
Hare earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors for the first time of her career. Against Xavier, she led all scorers with an 18-point, three rebound outing while shooting 6-of-11 from the floor and 4-of-6 from 3-point range. She becomes the second Marquette player to earn Freshman of the Week honors this season, joining Emily La Chapell, who has been honored twice.Â

Aaliyah Edwards, UConn, Jr., F
Edwards led the Huskies to a 3-0 week which included wins over DePaul, No. 21/21 Villanova and at rival RV/RV Tennessee. The junior averaged 20.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and .564 shooting. Against the Blue Demons on Monday, she tallied 23 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, before going for 25 points, seven rebounds and four dimes against the Lady Vols on Thursday. She finished the week with 13 points and six boards in Sunday's win over the Wildcats. This is her second BIG EAST Player of the Week nod of the season after being recognized on Nov. 28.Â

Mackenzie Hare, Marquette, Fr., G
Hare helped the Golden Eagles go 2-0 last week, scoring a game-high 18 points off 6-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three, in Wednesday's win over Xavier. Including Sunday's win at Butler, she averaged 10.5 points off .467 shooting, including a 50-percent clip from beyond the arc. This is her first career BIG EAST weekly award while she becomes the second Golden Eagle to earn the recognition this season along with two-time honoree Emily La Chapell.Â
