Award Presented Annually to Best Small Forward in the Nation
The Cheryl Miller Award - named after the three-time Naismith Player of the Year and Class of 1995 Hall of Famer from USC – is in its seventh season and recognizes the top small forwards in the nation. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates. The Cheryl Miller Award is one of five awards that comprise the Naismith Starting Five each season.
King was an All-BIG EAST First Team selection during the 2022-23 campaign after averaging 15.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. She led the Golden Eagles in minutes played, three-point percentage, points, assists, and steals per game.
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies in each of the three rounds starting October 20. In late January, the list will be trimmed to 10 names. In late February, the list will be narrowed to five. The winner of the Cheryl Miller Award, as well as presentation details, will be announced towards the end of the season.
The winner will join the other awards in the Naismith Starting Five. Those awards include the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard award, the Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting guard award, the Katrina McClain Power Forward award, and the Lisa Leslie Center award, in addition to the Men's Starting Five.
Previous winners of the Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year are Ashley Joens, Iowa State (2021-23), Satou Sabally, Oregon (2020), Bridget Carleton, Iowa State (2019) and Gabby Williams, UConn (2018).
