Kushner is BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

NEW YORK – Marquette University libero Sarah Kushner is the BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Week, while Ella Foti was named to the weekly honor roll, the league announced on Monday afternoon.

Kushner led Marquette to a 2-0 week with a pair of sweeps at Butler and Xavier while posting 31 total digs for the week, an average of 5.17 per set. She posted a match-high 19 digs in Friday's win over the Bulldogs and added a pair of assists. On Saturday, she recorded 12 digs, five assists and a service ace against the Musketeers.

The accolade is the second weekly recognition this season for Kushner, who earned honor roll mention on Oct. 9 for her play in wins over DePaul and then-No. 15 Creighton. She sits fourth in the BIG EAST in conference matches with 4.32 digs per set.

Foti stepped into the setter role for Marquette and helped the Golden Eagles hit a combined .342. In the first match of her career as MU's primary setter on Friday against the Bulldogs, Foti led the Golden Eagles to a hitting mark of .447 with 26 assists and a pair of blocks. She also landed six kills on eight errorless swings (.750) herself at BU. In Saturday's win at Xavier, she posted 29 assists, 11 digs, a pair of kills and two blocks.

The Golden Eagles host Providence and UConn at the Al McGuire Center this weekend before embarking on their last four-match road swing of the season the next week.
