Liza Karlen Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

First Time Senior Named Conference Player of the Week

NEW YORK – In the first weekly honors of the season, Marquette senior Liza Karlen has been named BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week for her performances in wins over Illinois and UT Martin.

Karlen scored a game-high 22 points on 11-of-16 shooting in the win over No. 23 Illinois on Saturday. Her 11 made field goals were one shy of a career high. Eight of her 22 points came in the fourth quarter.

In the season-opening win Monday against UT Martin, Karlen scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her 14th career double-double. She shot 65% from the field (15-of-23) for the week.

This marks the first time Karlen has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week. She has been named to the Weekly Honor Roll five times in her career.
