Ryan Banas is a freshman golfer from Winnetka, Illinois on the Marquette University men's golf team.Ā
GoMarquette.com: How did you get started playing golf? How old were you?
Ryan Banas: I started playing golf when my oldest brother and sister got into it. I was about 5-years old.
Q: What do you consider your 'home' course?Ā
A: My home course is North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Illinois.Ā
Q: What is your favorite course you have played?Ā
A: My favorite course I have ever played is Bannon Dunes in Bandon, Oregon. I played there in the U.S. Junior Amateur and was there with my brother caddying for me. Couldn't have asked for a cooler experience.Ā
Q: Which hole at Erin Hills is your favorite? Why?
A: My favorite hole at Erin Hills is No. 9. A hole that you can make anywhere from a two to a nine on it and is one of the coolest par 3's I've played.Ā
Q: What is your dream golf trip?
A: My dream golf trip would be going to Ireland and play a lot of the amazing courses there.Ā
Q: Which course are you most looking forward to playing this season?
A: I am really excited for our spring break trip to play a lot of amazing courses with my teammates.Ā
Q: Who would you include in your dream golf foursome? Anyone past or present.
A: My dream foursome is my dad, my brother, Reb, and my sister, Madison.Ā
Q: Favorite club in your bag?
A: My favorite club in my bag is myĀ putter, a Scotty Cameron Phantom X 5.5.Ā
Q: Is there a professional golfer you follow closely?
A: I am a really big fan of Rory McIlroy
Q: Share a fun fact about you or your family.
A: My entire family plays golf and my two oldest siblings played college golf as well.Ā
Q: What is an interesting fact about your hometown/area or high school alma mater?
A: My hometown Winnetka is where the Home Alone house is and my high school, Loyola Academy, is where Bill Murray went to high school.Ā
Q: Proudest golf achievement/moment?
A: My proudest golf moment was playing in the Western Amateur this past summer and playing when it was at my home course.Ā
Q: What's your favorite food?
A: My favorite food is chicken tenders.
Q: Go-to snack in your golf bag?
A: My go-to snack is aĀ Smuckers peanut butter and jelly Uncrustables.
Q: Favorite Milwaukee activity and/or restaurant?
A: My favorite place to get food is the Public Market.Ā
Q: What is the best part of playing golf for Marquette?
A: The best part of playing golf at Marquette is the relationships you create with your teammates and coaches and memories that will last a lifetime.Ā
Q: What has been your favorite Marquette memory?
A: My favorite Marquette memory so far has been playing Whistling Straits earlier this fall with the team. Having the opportunity to play such a special place like Whistling Straits and to be able to enjoy it with my teammates was one of my favorite days I've ever had on a golf course.Ā
