BIG EAST Release
NEW YORK – Marquette University women's volleyball players Yadhira Anchante, Hattie Bray, Aubrey Hamilton and Carsen Murray were each named to the All-BIG EAST Conference Team, the league announced on Tuesday evening.
All four were on the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team to begin the year and are recognized on the postseason team for the second year in a row. Hamilton is the lone MU player to earn unanimous selection.
The Golden Eagles claimed their third-consecutive BIG EAST regular season title with a 16-2 mark in league play following Saturday's sweep of Seton Hall. It is their fourth BIG EAST title overall, including their first won 10 years ago during the 2013 campaign.
Marquette finished the conference season leading the league in service aces with 118 (1.97 per set) and second in hitting percentage (.283), opponent hitting percentage (.148), blocks (2.38 per set) and digs (16.63 per set). The Golden Eagles were third in kills per set (13.65) and assists (12.47).
Hamilton hit .312 on 568 swings in BIG EAST play and averaged 3.82 kills and 4.43 points per set, both marks that rank second behind DePaul's Jill Pressly. The native of Hartland, Wisconsin earned six BIG EAST weekly honors and landed her 1,000th career on Sept. 13 against then-No. 1 Wisconsin at Fiserv Forum.
The Arrowhead High School graduate entered the year as an unanimous All-BIG EAST Preseason Team selection after claiming AVCA All-East Region honors in 2022 in addition to all-conference and all-league tournament recognition.
Anchante was also an unanimous All-BIG EAST Preseason Team selection and the 2022 BIG EAST Setter of the Year. She averaged 9.77 assists per set in BIG EAST play and recorded 12 double-doubles overall this season.
Murray led the BIG EAST with a hitting percentage of .420 (105-21-200) in league play while ranking fourth in blocks per set with 1.00 per frame (58 total). Her season-long hitting percentage of .382 is second in the league and 38th nationally. Murray was an unanimous all-league pick last season and is Marquette's all-time leader in hitting percentage (.381 on 1,162 total attempts entering the conference tournament).
Bray was the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 9 for her play in sweeps of DePaul and No. 15 Creighton and earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll distinction on Sept. 25. The native of Hancock, Wisconsin ranked sixth in BIG EAST play in blocks per set (0.98) and was 16th in hitting percentage this season. Last year, she was the lone MU player named to the NCAA Austin Region Team in the 2022 NCAA tournament for her play against eventual NCAA Champion Texas in the regional semifinals.
This year marks the third time that MU has had four players honored on the All-BIG EAST First Team or equivalent, and the second time in as many years. There has also been a total of five years in which MU had at least four players on the all-conference first or second teams (the 'second team' was eliminated after the 2018 season and combined into one All-BIG EAST Team).
The Golden Eagles host the BIG EAST Conference Women's Volleyball Championship Presented by JEEP on Nov. 22-25 and have earned a first-round bye. Marquette's first tournament game will be a semifinal match against either St. John's or Villanova on Friday, Nov. 24 at 12:30 p.m. Central time.
