No. 3/3 #MUBB Travels To Wisconsin Saturday at 11:30 a.m. CT

The No. 3/3 Marquette University men's basketball team (6-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) continues its non-conference schedule at Wisconsin (5-2, 0-0 Big Ten) on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 11:30 a.m. in the Kohl Center. FOX features the television broadcast, with Tim Brando (play-by-play) and Bill Raftery (analyst) calling the action. Following Saturday's outing, the Golden Eagles will return home to host No. 16/18 Texas, Marquette's fourth top-25 opponent, on Wednesday, Dec. 6 in the BIG EAST/Big 12 Battle.

Series With Badgers Dates Back To 1917

MU's all-time series with Wisconsin dates back to 1917, with the first meeting coming in MU's second season of competition.

Wisconsin owns a 70-59 edge in the previous matchups, with each squad enjoying an extended run of success at various points in the series. Marquette's best streak came between 1969 and 1984 when the team claimed 15-straight wins and 19-of-21 overall.

Marquette's lone home loss of the 2022-23 campaign came against Wisconsin on Dec. 3, an 80-77 overtime win by the Badgers. Guard Kam Jones led all scorers in the game with 26 points and the Golden Eagles rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit.

MU has met only DePaul more times (133) than Wisconsin in program history.

Defense Leads To Latest Victory

Marquette led, 52-36, Tuesday night at the intermission over Southern, despite the Jaguars shooting 56.0 percent from the floor overall and 47.1 percent from behind the 3-point line in the opening 20 minutes.

MU's defense found its stride in the second half, however, holding Southern to just 27.6 percent from the floor and a 1-of-12 effort from long distance. The Golden Eagles turned 22 Jaguar turnovers into 38 points.

Offensively, guard Tyler Kolek led five players in double figures with 16 points and guard Stevie Mitchell chipped in a season-high 11 points. Forward Ben Gold played 22 minutes, the most of any player to see action.

Marquette Winning Turnover Battle Early

Marquette forced a season-high 22 turnovers in the win over Southern and committed just six miscues of its own to continue a season-long trend.

Through games of Nov. 29, the Golden Eagles rank first in the BIG EAST and fourth in the nation in turnover margin (+7.7) and fifth in the country in turnovers per game (8.6).

Marquette has forced 10-or-more turnovers in each of the seven outings this season, while reaching that mark just once (12, Kansas) on its own. MU has converted those miscues into an average of 20.0 points per outing.
